Edwin Raymond is a recently retired NYPD lieutenant, civil-rights activist and author of the riveting new memoir An Inconvenient Cop: My Fight to Change Policing in America.

He’s the recipient of an NAACP Courage Under Fire Award, International Documentary Association Courage Under Fire Award and IDA Doc Star of the Month.

He has appeared on The Trevor Noah Podcast, CNN with Anderson Cooper, Freakonomics Radio (podcast) with Stephen Dubner, NBC with Sarah Wallace, Democracy Now with Amy Goodman, ABC News, and various media outlets. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

2008

Joined NYPD

at the age of 22 with the intention and ambition to discover and evolve the policing system.

2015 -2016

Files a lawsuit with 11 other officers:

Raymond vs. The City of New York

Shortly after,

becomes a whistleblower and after facing retaliation fights to be promoted to Sergeant.

Featured in an Emmy award-winning documentary. Continues fighting for his promotion to Lieutenant.

2020

At a critical time in policing history the attention on his work is amplified with notable community support.

2023

Edwin makes a difficult decision to retire early in order to spearhead a nationwide evolution in policing. Publishes a memoir about his 15 year journey in the police department, providing a tool to move the needle in the right direction.
